2647.htm Honorable Mention: Bold Vision_01 Suki Medencevic It’s not every day a homeowner requests a green and fuchsia kitchen, but then again, it’s not every day a designer comes across a client who lives in a house painted cobalt blue, deep fuchsia and orange on its exterior.
2647.htm Honorable Mention: Bold Vision_02 Suki Medencevic Elina Katsioula-Beall, CKD, of Dewitt Designer Kitchens, however, was hired by such a client, who in addition to describing her dream kitchen as her “children’s garden”—complete with “happy, bold green stems opening to a vibrant fuchsia flower bed”—asked that its style be one of “Middle East-inspired Mexican architect Luis Barragán meets European modernism.”
2647.htm Honorable Mention: Bold Vision_03 Suki Medencevic Such a confluence of references might have intimidated other designers, but not so Katsioula-Beall, who took all of these requests and created this 217-sq.-ft. honorable mention in Santa Monica, CA. Her solution combines Formica-paneled cabinets in glossy lime-green with bright magenta quartz.
2647.htm Honorable Mention: Bold Vision_04 Suki Medencevic A large island, also outfitted in green and magenta and equipped with stools on one side, anchors the center of the kitchen and allows the client to prep food while keeping an eye on her children.
2647.htm Honorable Mention: Bold Vision_05 Suki Medencevic Neutral-toned elements are dispersed throughout the kitchen to offset the vibrant colors. These include stainless-steel appliances and pulls, as well as a silvery tempered-glass backsplash located behind the range.
2647.htm Honorable Mention: Bold Vision_06 Suki Medencevic Shelves containing a toaster oven, cookbooks and a variety of fun objects are also tiled in silver, and a pony wall, island seating and certain vertical surfaces have been kept white to establish a sense of connection to the adjoining dining room.
2647.htm Honorable Mention: Bold Vision_07 Suki Medencevic While a host of storage accessories keep the kitchen operating smoothly, colorful accents in orange and turquoise enhance its festive quality, ensuring a place for the client and “her little fairies” to lead a happy family life.
