A collector of rare Asian artifacts needed an open floor plan that showcased ancient Thai pieces. “Basically I wanted to come up with a theme that incorporated the artwork,” said Troy Adams of Troy Adams Design.
Walnut cabinets and bamboo wall coverings give the kitchen a warm, contemporary feel. ““We commissioned an artist to make a huge piece of art made of silver leaf panels,” said Adams. “The bamboo was painted on top of the silver leaf.”
Made to look metallic, porcelain tiles line the floor and pair with countertops made from quarried lava rock. Three custom-made hanging pendants feature an Asian design in gunmetal gray.
Through a unique privacy glass, the powder room looks onto an exterior statue. “The original concept was to have a floor-to-ceiling piece of glass showing a statue in the back,” said Adams.
“Using some of the Asian furniture concept, we created a tansu step cabinet,” said Adams. Beneath the floating mirror, the vanity gives additional storage and can be used on both sides. “It carries a little more modern interpretation of the Asian culture.”
Flamed walnut lines the floors. “Often in Asia, you won’t find incredibly dark woods, but pale woods,” said Adams. “We wanted natural wood tones, like the wood design of the flame of the actual walnut.”
Mounted on white river rocks, the soaking tub shares a platform with the shower. “We had the water coming from the ceiling to fill up the soaking tub,” said Adams. “It’s an Asian concept.”
“The shower glass is custom made out of blown glass, along with the hardware,” said Adams. “The shower handles are colored, blown glass from Murano.”
Attached to the vanity space, the walk-in closet boasts a built-in coffee maker and refrigerator. “The bathroom is a Zen-spa, kind of retreat,” said Adams. A Murano glass chandelier hangs above from a gold leaf ceiling.
