Designer Elina Katsioula-Beall of DeWitt Designer Kitchens started with a common galley bath and ended up with a play on shape. “I started with a combination of S-shapes and thought of a swirling dance,” she said.
An S-shaped vanity curves with the mirror, which is lined with Carerra marble. Lit from beneath, the floating glass sink and counter maximize space and bring out the room’s colorful lighting. “The choices were to either throw any curves on the space or seek and respect a sense of sacred geometry,” said Katsioula-Beall.
The toilet area is hidden by arched pony-walls, lined with Carerra marble on one side and thin, bamboo-like tile on the adjacent areas. “I incorporated bamboo in both a literal and subliminal way,” explained Katsioula-Beall. An integrated bamboo toilet paper holder and small bamboo poles for towel racks add to the allusion.
“The lighting quest was glow and surprise,” said Katsioula-Beall. “A twisting sleek track with sexy track heads combines with recessed, low-voltage halogen lights to offer the flexibility of aiming the fixtures to the desired spot.”
Simple, gray, linear floor tile balances with the rest of the curves in the space. “Curves are very tricky and particular,” commented Katsioula-Beall. “[The flooring] is designed to interact and fall into place with all those curvy challenges.”
