As with most any city condo, this kitchen in the Trump Tower Condo boasted high-end materials but lacked personality. The owner, a LEED-certified architect, brought in designer Shawna Dillon of Snaidero Chicago to change that. “He wanted the kitchen to suit his own design aesthetic, complement the sophistication of the architecture and reflect the drama of the city skyline beyond the glass,” said Dillon.

Open to the living area but squeezed into a 10-ft. x 9-ft. space, the previous design held generic brown cabinetry and a dark countertop, along with a black backsplash to further shrink the space. To keep with a sustainable design, these cabinet boxes and the appliances were reused.

To create the illusion of more space, Dillon stacked the tall and wall cabinetry to the ceiling and replaced the hardware with vertical, long pulls. A marble backsplash to lightens the space and a high-gloss lacquer finish on the cabinetry reflects the view.
