This new-build design, completed by Scott Dresner of Chicago-based Dresner Design, needed to accommodate a family with three young boys and a busy schedule.

After 14 different layouts, Dresner created a floor plan with a long island filled with storage and a wall of white cabinetry and integrated appliances.

The designer used white glass cabinetry with integrated hardware for a bright aesthetic and clean detailing. The appliances are integrated so the cabinetry looks more like freestanding furniture.

“It is my opinion that modern should be always be white,” said Dresner. “We choose glass [cabinetry] to give it sparkle and sheen.”

Made of white quartzite with a waterfall edge, the countertops add even more subtle glitter.

Adjacent to the kitchen, a pantry functions as a stainless steel prep area used primarily for baking and catering. Plug mold and LED strip lighting runs the entire length of the pantry cabinets for appliances and charging devices.

“Downstairs we used a black ebony veneer with black marble,” said Dresner, referring to the bar area. “It’s very dark and sexy.”

With three boys, the client does laundry often and requested a double set of washers and dryers. Red cabinetry makes the workroom fun and cheerful.

“After the project was complete and photos were taken, other designers thought this was a catalogue shot, when it’s really a functioning kitchen and the heart of this family’s home,” said Dresner.
