Winners of the Second Annual Fantini Design Awards Announced
Completed Category: 5th Ave. Loft, Andrew Pollock Architect, PC
“One of the challenges was working within an early 20th-century building originally built for manufacturing. We had to bring the plumbing specs up to the 21st century both behind and in front of the walls. Products had to be chosen that could accomplish both goals.” -Andrew Pollock, Andrew Pollock Architect, PC
Completed Category: 5th Ave. Loft, Andrew Pollock Architect, PC
“I believe that our project stood out to the judges because our approach to the architecture of the loft and its bathrooms shares an aesthetic and rigorousness of design with Fantini’s own design approach to its products.” – Andrew Pollock, Andrew Pollock Architect, PC
Completed Category: 1309 Maple Street, SMD Interiors
“In being half a duplex, we were working with a very limited amount of space. Very precise decisions needed to be made to make the space feel bigger and brighter than it was. It was a lesson in using every square foot thoughtfully. We carefully chose fixtures and finishes that were unique, high quality and well designed. The challenge was living smaller without feeling like we had less.” – Sahra Samnani, SMD Interiors
Completed Category: 1309 Maple Street, SMD Interiors
“I think the project was chosen perhaps [because of] the quality of the space – the amount of light, the feeling of warm from the wood, the continuous lines and flow of the home. The space feels generous given the small footprint.” – Sahra Samnani, SMD Interiors
Completed Category: Gramercy Park Residence, Eric Petschek LLC
“Due to the age of the building, there were a lot of odd conditions to deal with, especially odd riser locations that we were challenged by.” – Eric Petschek, Eric Petschek LLC
Completed Category: Gramercy Park Residence, Eric Petschek LLC
“I would guess that the judges responded to the warm but minimal detailing with a focus on refined materials.” – Eric Petschek, Eric Petschek LLC
Completed Category: McGill 120, La Firme Design
“This apartment is located in Old Montreal, in a building that dates back 160 years. It’s a neighborhood that is dense, so bringing materials up four floors was quite a challenge. Also, since the plumbing, mechanics and heated floors needed for the new bathrooms are complex, it wasn’t easy to connect them to the old, existing plumbing.”
– Louis Beliveau, La Firme Design
Completed Category: McGill 120, La Firme Design
“This is a clean and minimalist project. The proportions between the white oak and concrete make it balanced and timeless.” – Louis Beliveau, La Firme Design
Completed Category: Osborne Residence, Reunion Goods & Services
“Our clients were a couple with different tastes – one wanted color, and one wanted the design be serene and white. In the end, we were able to make both of them happy by creating a design that took risks and used purposeful pops of color but did not go too far in either direction.” – Laura Glam, Reunion Goods & Services
Completed Category: Osborne Residence, Reunion Goods & Services
“We think the judges appreciated seeing such exquisite fixtures used in such a playful application. Our clients were not afraid of bold choices, and the end result ended up being both fun and beautiful.” – Laura Glam, Reunion Goods & Services
Completed Category: Vapor House, David Jameson Architect Inc.
“Curating the relationship between the various Fantini components and the structure to present a minimalist aesthetic was our biggest challenge.” – David Jameson, David Jameson Architect Inc.
