Miele Looks to a Green Future
July 01, 2009
Miele’s new G 2002 series of dishwashers use only 5.1 gallons of water in its normal cycle, with many models exceeding Energy Star's future 2011 water and energy standards. Miele’s previous normal program on models used 6.1 gallons of water per load, making the new series 17 percent more efficient, and saving about a gallon per load. In its economy cycle, the new Miele series will use 1.2 gallons per load.
Nadine Gast, Product Manager for Miele, Inc. mentions the new features that helped Miele achieve lower water and energy usage standards, including a high performance water pump, a Turbo feature that speeds up wash programs by 30 percent and SensorDry, an improved drying system that calculates the best drying time.
Gast goes on to say, "Beyond energy and water usage, consumers need to consider performance as part of their green home strategy. According to Energy Star, pre-rinsing dishes prior to loading can waste up to 20 gallons of water per cycle. With a Miele dishwasher, pre-rinsing is not necessary as our dishwashers are guaranteed to clean thoroughly without rinsing. Scrape and load is all a consumer needs to do. When buying a dishwasher to save energy and water, homeowners should investigate which models can clean effectively while being energy efficient."
Additionally, the Miele dishwashers have a 20-year lifespan, which outlasts the average life cycle stated by Energy Star by 9 years, more than 90 percent of the dishwasher is recyclable, and Miele's production meets the DIN EN ISO 14001 environmental performance standards.
