Whether it's for Thanksgiving dinner or some other holiday meal, roasting a turkey has never been easier, thanks to a variety of innovative cooking technologies. From convection to speed cooking, today's ovens take the stress and guesswork out of preparing the perfect bird, allowing hosts and hostesses to relax, entertain the guests and truly enjoy the holidays. Following are just some of the latest designs to make Thanksgiving a breezy event.
[1] Jenn-Air’s Wall OvensIdeal for both culinary novices and experts alike,
Jenn-Air's wall ovens offer foolproof cooking of a variety of foods, even turkey. With its large LCD screen, the unit employs a series of images to guide users through the entire process of roasting the turkey, from calculating cook time and temperature to choosing the right pan and even determining where to place the thermometer. A 6,800W vertical dual-fan convection element evenly roasts on multiple racks in less time than conventional ovens.
[2] Dacor's Pure ConvectionEquipped with a four-part Pure Convection system, all
Dacor wall ovens and ranges use a custom-designed air baffle for channeling hot air in a perfect pattern, thus ensuring uniform temperatures on every level of the oven cell. As a result, a turkey weighing 10 to 18 pounds can be roasted in 2 to 2 1/2 hours, while a heavier bird of 18 to 22 pounds can be done in 2 1/2 to 3 hours. The convection filter captures grease and flavor particles within the oven cell, allowing users to cook multiple dishes simultaneously without flavor transfer. Ambitious users can cook on all six racks if so desired.
[3] Kenmore’s Kenmore Elite Free Standing Induction Range
In addition to the benefits of induction cooking, this range offers a variety of cooking features that might come in handy for a holiday meal. The addition of a fan, as well as a hidden third heating element, enables the true convection oven to deliver uniform browning throughout the oven. At 5.8 cu. ft., the Hidden Bake Oven can cook a turkey and three pies at once, while the AirGuard technology feature traps and virtually eliminates oven odors. The latter is controllable, however, and can be disengaged to allow the aromas of Thanksgiving dinner to fill the home.
[4] Miele’s MasterChef OvenA 20-pound turkey in a conventional oven can require up to 4 1/2 hours to roast. However,
Miele's MasterChef oven with AutoRoast can cook the same bird unstuffed in roughly 2 1/2 hours. To eliminate any chance of error, the MasterChef program offers a "turkey" option, which, after being selected, then prompts users to enter the weight of the bird. At that point, the oven and its AutoRoast feature take over, automatically calculating the time needed for a perfect roast. The 30-in. oven easily accommodates a large turkey, along with roast potatoes and onions.
[5] TurboChef's Double and Single Wall Speedcook Ovens
For those who have little time or patience, these speedcook ovens can have a 10.9-pound turkey ready for serving in only 42 minutes. Capable of cooking food 15 times faster than conventional ovens, they utilize the patented Airspeed Technology, in which heated air circulates rapidly and evenly through the oven cavity, and foods, including turkey, better retain their moisture than if prepared in conventional ovens. The units include an easy-to-use menu-driven control system, as well as four heating options—convection, inner broiler, outer broiler and bake. Additionally, the oven's generous capacity can accommodate a 26-pound turkey.
[6] GE’s GE Profile 30-in. single-double wall ovenAchieving new heights in multitasking, this wall oven from
GE consists of two separate ovens that together fit into the space of one standard-size unit. Its design enables it to cook two dishes at two different temperatures simultaneously. The larger of the two ovens, the 2.8-cu.-ft. lower compartment, is equipped with the company's PreciseAir convection system and can roast a turkey of up to 20 pounds. The upper oven, which is 2.2 cu. ft., can be used to cook hors d'oeuvres, garlic bread and side dishes such as the traditional green bean casserole. Reverse-fan technology ensures optimal heat circulation and temperature accuracy for even cooking and browning.
