ALNO Chosen for LEED Platinum Concrete Home

January 05, 2009

Said to become the first LEED Platinum concrete home in the United States, the Pasadena EcoHouse in Pasadena, CA, highlights several environmentally friendly features, such as recycled glass and concrete countertops, solar generation and sustainable kitchen cabinets. Currently under construction, the house will be a three-bedroom, single-level home perched upon a rocky, 1,975-sq.-ft. hillside lot.

The homeowners that commissioned the design—James Copelan and Jancie Kapanski—would like to be the first homeowners to earn Platinum certification for water and energy efficiency from the U.S. Green Building Council. They opted for ALNOCHIC cabinetry—a modern, yet curvaceous collection, which will offer an attractive contrast to the angular shape of the home. The upper cabinets will feature a high-gloss olive brown wood-grain finish, while the lower cabinets will have a high-gloss vanilla finish.

"The homeowners wanted cabinets that have the look of wood, but are still eco-friendly," said Fred Crockett, owner of ALNO Pasadena. "After searching the country for a cabinet manufacturer that could provide a wholly green product that would allow them to receive LEED certification, they found us."
