Texas Residential Project Wins Pinnacle Award from MIA

October 12, 2009

Architectural Granite & Marble (AG&M), a member of the Artisan Group, a network of stone fabricators in North America, has been awarded the MIA (Marble Institute of America) Pinnacle Award of Excellence for the Bryant residence in Texas. The project is now one of three finalists for the Grand Pinnacle Award. The architect on the project was Mark Carlson, and the fabricator/installer was Hill Country Granite.

According to Chad Seiders, AG&M sales manager, "The challenge for this project was to find materials that fit into the owners' architectural style," which they dubbed "Texas Hill Country Contemporary" and is "warm and inviting, but also clean and contemporary." He added, "The architect and the owners were determined not to copy the typical 'Tuscan' style so popular for upscale homes in the Austin area."

The main features of the house are the use of both indoor and outdoor spaces and the easy flow from one room to the next. The material selections had to be compatible with color schemes both inside and out, and blend with the stone used on the exterior of the house.

This award is given to projects whose beauty, ingenuity and craftsmanship exemplify professional mastery in the use of natural stone in commercial and residential environments. Selina gold limestone tile from Egypt was used for the majority of the interior flooring, while Goldstone granite was chosen for the exterior paving, pool coping, and fireplace facing applications. The kitchen countertops are in a polished Apollo storm granite with a full-height, end-matched backsplash. The homeowners specified a Calacatta gold premium marble for the counters and tub deck in the master bath, but decided against the same material for tiling because of its large veins.
