Masco Gets Green Award

December 10, 2009

Masco Retail Cabinet Group, the manufacturer of KraftMaid Cabinetry, was among six organizations to receive the Ohio Governor's Award for Outstanding Achievement in Environmental Stewardship.

Presented by First Lady Frances Strickland and Chris Korleski, director of the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the awards recognize those that have demonstrated a sound track record for environmental compliance and a commitment to improve environmental performance beyond that required by regulations. Other considerations include the use of a mature environmental management system (EMS) or integration of the EMS principles into core business functions; the establishment of aggressive environmental goals; and a process for communicating with the local community about programs and progress on performance goals.

Receiving the award for KraftMaid Cabinetry was Chris Winans, VP of operations at Masco Retail Cabinetry, who described the honor as validation for the sustainable practices the company has undertaken since its humble beginnings. In addition to operating plants under an environmental management system certified to ISO14001:2004, KraftMaid Cabinetry has earned certification under the Environmental Stewardship Program (ESP) administered by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA); fulfilled the Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ) cabinetry requirements for inclusion in the Environments for Living Certified Green program; and is a downstream licensed facility of the Composite Panel Association (CPA) Environmentally Preferable Product (EPP) program.

The company also actively supports local communities and neighborhoods around the country through product donation and involvement with various charities and institutions, including Habitat for Humanity and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.
