KB Home Offers “Smart” Appliances

October 11, 2013

KB Home recently announced a new collaboration with Whirlpool Corporation, which allows the company’s brand of “smart” appliances to be offered to homebuyers at KB Home Design Studios. An initial offering will include refrigerators and dishwashers available to homebuyers in all of KB Home’s communities and Design Studios in Southern California.

A nationwide rollout is planned into 2014, with pairs of smart washers and dryers expected to be added in a future phase of the program. Whirlpool brand’s 6th Sense Live appliances allow homeowners to connect their refrigerator, dishwasher and laundry pair to the smart grid, track energy consumption and operate all of them from computers and mobile devices. The appliances also deliver real-time information, as well as energy rates and consumption.

“Getting to be the first to showcase and offer these innovative smart appliances is a great way to continue our good work in new home innovation throughout 2013,” said Jeffrey Mezger, president and CEO of KB Home. “Above all else, we are driven to make the new homebuying experience a better and more efficient one for our buyers. These are products designed first and foremost with the homeowner in mind – with the added bonus that they are among the most energy efficient around and can help our homeowners further reduce their energy bill and, in turn, their impact on the environment.”
