Artistic Tile Joins SmartWay Transport Partnership

April 16, 2010

Artistic Tile has joined the SmartWay Transport Partnership, a collaboration between the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the freight industry, which is designed to increase energy efficiency while reducing greenhouse gases and air pollution.
By improving the environmental performance of freight operations, Artistic Tile will contribute to the Partnership’s goal to reduce 33 to 66 million metric tons of carbon dioxide and up to 200,000 tons of nitrogen oxide per year by 2012. Carbon dioxide is the most common greenhouse gas, and nitrogen oxide is an air pollutant that contributes to smog.
“Transporting natural stone and tile to nationwide dealers is a major part of our business, so we are very pleased and proud to be among the first in our industry to join the SmartWay Transport Partnership,” said Nancy Epstein, founder and CEO of Artistic Tile. “Furthermore, as a responsible corporate citizen, Artistic Tile is committed to lowering our carbon footprint even further by initiating other in-house eco-friendly business practices.”
Launched in February 2004, the SmartWay Transport Partnership aims to achieve fuel savings of up to 150 million barrels of fuel per year. The Partnership brings together major freight shippers, trucking companies, railroads, logistics companies and trade/professional associations, and currently has more than 2,550 partners.
