House Beautiful’s Kitchen of the Year Opens

“Flipping Out” star Jeff Lewis designs a contemporary kitchen for Rockefeller Center
July 20, 2010

House Beautiful’s Kitchen of the Year, designed by Jeff Lewis, star of Bravo TV's Flipping Out, opened its door yesterday in Rockefeller Center. A sleek modern design, this year’s installation departs in aesthetic from the two previous showcases, which celebrated the styles of Ina Garten, the Barefoot Contessa, and Christopher Peacock. As mentioned by Newell Turner, editor-in-chief of House Beautiful, in his opening remarks, the kitchen represents a new direction for the magazine, which will now expand its editorial coverage to include more contemporary-style interiors.

Totaling 2,000 sq. ft., the installation includes a fully functioning kitchen, a living area and an outdoor sitting area.
As reported previously, the Kitchen of the Year is open daily from 9 am to 4 pm through Friday, July 23, and will host a variety of cooking demonstrations, tastings and other special events. For more information, visit the House Beautiful website. For more photos of the installation, check out Susan Serra's slide show accessible via The Kitchen Designer blog.
