Offered by Global Lighting, the new collection from Dutch company Ay Illuminate features lights fabricated using local resources. The Z1 Black Bamboo PC pendant has a handcrafted black bamboo frame sheathed in black, gray or natural handmade paper that leaves the upper and lower portions of the fixture uncovered for a luminous effect. The fabric, made in a small village in the Philippines, is tied to the frame by hand. The nubby quality of the woven shade filters the emitted light to reflect a textural glow onto surrounding surfaces. Ay Illuminate’s design team—Ay Lin Heinen and Nelson Sepulveda—work with artisans to actualize these soulful creations from the bark of the mulberry tree. The fixture is “handmade” in the truest sense of the word, so longer lead-times may apply and slight variations in the profiles of each pendant may exist. Discover more lighting options here.
