David Davison and Christopher Davison of Realty Restoration, LLC, and Christy Bowen of Twelve Stones Design teamed up to give one client her dream escape. “The homeowner and I wanted to really make this space luxurious and elegant,” said Bowen. “Each element plays off of another element in the space, which makes it truly stunning.”
The previous hers vanity sported an enclosed space, ineffective lighting and an indistinct make. It also lacked an important feature for the client – a dog door.
In place of the previous vanity, an alcove was carved out of the existing garage space to create a hallway to the new vanity room.
Outlined in Ming green marble and Thassos marble, the retreat incorporates the client’s favorite shades of green. Underneath the dual-height vanities, a recess houses a bed for the dogs, while the dog-door connects to the outside area.
One pattern of tile uses a traditional basket weave pattern with rectangles of thassos and square dots of Ming green, while the other weaves metal studs between the Ming green ‘pillow’ tiles. “I chose these tiles for both their sea-foam color, which complements the green swirls in the granite, and because of the interesting cut of the tile, which provides a textural element,” explained Bowen.
Inspired by the jade color of the granite, the team continued the palette into the main bathroom. The same backsplash lines the shower and accents the tub. “The texture and shape of these tiles make for a breathtaking accent,” added Bowen.
One of the sidewalls of the previous shower was cut down to allow for more natural light. A pony wall now houses the new thermostatic controls and diverters, as well as a vertical grab bar for a safer entry and exit.
With its odd angles, the former ceiling made lighting problematic. By reframing the ceiling, the team created an even surface to house a barrel vault with recessed lighting and a chandelier.
“Your eye wants to keep moving up, down and around the whole room to see what the next stunning element might be,” said Bowen. “And then you want to start all over again! The space just keeps on giving.”
