Set in a luxury desert home community near Tucson, Ariz., this master bathroom played off of its arid, rustic views for a serene yet luxurious style.

Designed by Lori Carroll of Tucson-based Lori Carroll and Associates, the space started with a conversation about the homeowner’s love of all things stone. This inspired a materials palette that uses quartzite, river rock and dendrite stone.

“The views from this master bathroom suite were spectacular, so it’s not surprising that the interior’s inspiration came from stately Saguaro cactus, the ‘curious and unique’ ocotillo and vivid desert sunsets,” said Carroll.

“Varied sizes of natural, branched quartzite cover the walls and floors in this stunning master retreat,” said Carroll. “Dendrites, or branching patterns in the tile, resemble graceful twigs and leaves, creating a soothing, au natural effect – perfect for their spa-like retreat.”

Because of the size and shape of the bathroom provided a unique challenge, Carroll created the concept of an island cabinet vanity. The result is back-to-back vanities with a double-sided mirror in between.

“In this master bathroom, a spacious floor plan allowed for more innovative thinking,” said Carroll, who used the unique space to play with different materials and textures.

“The clients wanted an exceptional space that matched the earthy details of their custom desert, contemporary home,” said the designer. “The couple envisioned a warm, relaxing space with a sophisticated flair.”
