“Honestly my first instinct was going in there and trying to flatten everything out so it was easier to work with,” said Chantal Devane, who faced a bathroom full of awkward angles and 1980s pink marble. “But I think it can offer a creative challenge that can offer something unique and different in the end.”
“Getting rid that massive whirlpool was huge,” said Devane. “You couldn’t even get into it because it was so big.”
A freestanding tub, found on clearance, became the catalyst off of which the rest of the design was built. A theater stage built underneath also helps divide up the large space.
The double vanity takes advantage of the awkward footprint with his-and-hers sides. “The vanity design is something that you’ll never see anywhere else, but it works for this house,” commented Devane.
Even with its still pentagon shape, the shower’s new gray marble and glass surround create a contemporary, open look.
A bench with a cherry blossom pattern ties in the view and gives the older homeowners a place to sit, while the metal bar underneath relates back to the vanity.
