“It was a redesign of a redesign,” explained Jerri Kunz of Jerri Kunz Interior Design. Having completed small alterations to this previous cottage-style bathroom before, Kunz stepped back in to open up the space and create a masculine aesthetic.
By removing the tile-clad walls of the shower, the bathroom immediately appeared to have more space. “We could see through the shower section into the tub corner that way,” explained Kunz. The glass tile backsplash extends behind the bathtub for a continuous look.
“We were really restricted to the footprint and the location of the plumbing,” said Kunz in reference to the corner bathtub, which was redone to match the vanity’s Caeserstone countertop. “That was probably my favorite part: the way the shower, the tub and the side of that vanity integrated when we were done,” she added.
Dark gray floors, soft gray walls and an overall neutral palette create a masculine aesthetic. The only spot of color is a turquoise upholstered bench. “We needed to enliven the space a bit,” explained Kunz.
To create the illusion of more space, Kunz minimized the number of materials and smoothed out the planes. “There’s nothing really fluffy in there,” she added.
Two square sconces above the mirror illuminate the space, along with adjustable, recessed lights. “I liked the miraculous transformation of the bathroom,” said Kunz. “It really changed dramatically.”
