Once a squished and dysfunctional bath, this remodel was inspired by the idea that natural materials and references can contribute to relaxation. Designer Tushar Irani of Gaithersburg, Md.-based Tile Center Inc. worked to create a spa-like design with organic tendencies.
Wood-look porcelain tile was used across the bathroom floor and on the shower walls to create a warm, natural look.
“Picking out the shower floor tile was a bit tricky at first, but once we placed the sliced polished pebbles sample next to the wood-look porcelain tile, everything came to life,” said Irani.
Since the client did not want any towel bars installed on the wall, the design team instead found an antique-style ladder holder that was placed in a corner an unused corner to tie it into the rest of the space.
“The kidney-shaped countertop that was used for the makeup area was particularly challenging since we wanted to give it a floating appearance,” said Irani. “This was achieved by incorporating the windowsill as a support.”
“All the recess lights we used are shower-rated lights with dimmer switches that add an easy-to-use functionality to the space,” said Irani. “We also opted for a more sustainable design by incorporating LED light fixtures throughout the space.”
