The family kitchen design features black-painted rift oak cabinets and white-painted cabinets with textured linen glass in the uppers.
“Arched doorways on each side of the back wall of the kitchen provide symmetry and frame matching diamond-cut glass windows and pendants in the wine bar on the left and pantry on the right,” said Brenda Helms, RCID, owner of Edmond Kitchen & Bath. “White-painted brick provides a classic modern texture that unites all three spaces.” The lighted toe kick on the island gives it a floating look, and brass-footed legs create a furniture vibe. The designers chose frameless cabinets for maximized storage, and the uppers and floating shelves featured integrated lighting.
Although the designers embraced this mix of styles in the kitchen, their clients both wanted a classic look that would not become outdated too soon. They chose black- and white-painted cabinets for their neutrality and contrast, and they added wood around the hood vent for added warmth. The floating island, which is illuminated underneath by a lighted toe kick, provides that more modern vibe the wife wanted.
The separate pantry, which is all the rage these days, features a corner pullout and frosted-mirror glass in the black upper cabinet.
The wine room incorporates custom wine bottle divides and lift-up cabinets, and a rolling ladder provides access to the upper storage. The faceted, rimmed sink from Kohler and the diamond-cut glass windows add the finishing touches.
The daughter’s kitchenette offers a sink with what Helms describes as a ledge on the front inside wall that shortens the reach to the bottom of the sink for certain items. The microwave is at a height for accessible use.
The laundry/craft room features a built-in, extendable table that can be hidden away inside the cabinets when not in use. Drawers are used for the majority of the storage in this space.
