Designed by Think Chic Interiors, the kid-friendly, kosher kitchen has an upbeat combination of traditional and contemporary details. Crisp, seamless surfacing treatments on the island, range hood and counters balance the custom cabinets’ built-up crown molding.

The same Dekton material that clads the vent hood, counters and walls was used to create an integrated twist on the farm sink look while capitalizing on the durability of the stainless-steel basins.

To keep the cabinets from appearing monolithic, Helft installed brass mesh for an open and airy look. Backing the mesh with mirrors avoids having to keep contents tidy and adds a touch of brightness to the room.

A coffee station right off the breakfast nook features ventilated drawers – placed at child-height to encourage healthy eating habits – for storing fresh fruit.

Many aging-in-place elements are also extremely kid-friendly. Some of the features included in the kitchen that meet this criterion are pullout lazy Susans installed in corner cabinets, dishwasher drawers, pullout pantry and spice storage cabinet inserts and pulldown shelving in some of the upper cabinets, which bring ingredients closer to point of use without stretching or using a step stool.

Strategically tucking electrical outlets under the island overhang is an unobtrusive and convenient way to keep computers charged and connected.
