The homeowners of this previously dysfunctional and aged kitchen were looking for a design that catered to their tall heights and their love of baking and entertaining. Designer Nar Bustamente of Sacramento, Calif.-based Nar Design Group worked to suit the new kitchen to their stature and their tastes.
With an archway, a peninsula and a different floor level, the previously outdated kitchen was very separated from the adjacent family room.

After gutting the kitchen and raising the sunken living room, Bustamente unified the rooms with large plank porcelain tile flooring.
The island is accented on one end with a dark blue-gray cabinet wrapped in butcher block.
One of the greatest functional improvements was the large Galley workstation, which allows ample room for prepping and washing during the large gatherings that the clients frequently host.
Two appliance tambours, which elegantly disguise where countertop appliances are stored, are in the middle of the two tall sections to provide a break in the cabinetry.
“The classic elegance of marble in this unique format is a nod to this home’s overall aesthetic,” said Bustamente.
