Before the home had this clean and streamlined design, the client felt the palette and layout were outdated and did not suit the family’s taste. Designer Rene Costabile of Sea Girt, N.J.-based Design Line Kitchens stepped in to provide a transitional design with personal touches.
The original kitchen featured golden cherry cabinetry, cream-colored granite countertops and a wallpapered backsplash – all of which needed to be replaced to fit a modern style.
The newly expanded island – the result of removing a peninsula and a half wall – boasts refrigerated drawers, a dishwasher, a prep sink and seating for four.
The refrigerator and freezer are integrated into the cabinetry with white-paneled doors.
After closing up a secondary door leading to the laundry room, Costabile had more room for storage and multiple appliances, like the wall ovens.
The metal hood is gunmetal and chrome banded, adding a touch of modern metallic shine to the final design. “This was the right choice after years with an oversized wood hood that was clunky in the room,” said Costabile.
Deep-drawer cabinets provide high-functioning storage the original kitchen lacked.
