Designer Sandy Lucas, founding partner of Lucas Eilers Design Associates, teamed up with architect Michael Dreef of EGA and builder Doug LeBoeuf of LeBoeuf Homes to create the ideal retreat from the city – one that was both well designed and functional.
To convey the warmth of the outdoors, the designer chose antique brick for the backsplash in the light-filled kitchen. Lighting choices include lanterns over the dining table and cable lights recessed into the high ceiling.
This kitchen lacks upper cabinets because of the ample windows, but the two islands accommodate the storage needed. A window by the prep sink opens out onto the outdoor eating area so items can be passed back and forth.
Lucas chose subway tiles for the shower in the master bath, as concrete – a solid material for a beach-front location – is too porous for wet areas.
“I typically do not like to use wallpaper on the coast because the high humidity and movement from high winds can cause it to buckle or peal,” said the designer, who instead used concrete tiles in a colorful pattern for the wainscot.
This colorful bath serves the needs of guests staying in multiple rooms. It features double vanities with Caesarstone countertops and a green and white concrete tile wainscot from Mosaic House. Sliding teak shutters provide privacy for the shower and water closet areas.
An exterior sink area features concrete countertops from Gunnells Concrete and an antique zinc sink that can be hosed down after cleaning the catch of the day.
