Cheryl Kees Clendenon, owner and lead designer of Pensacola, Fla.-based In Detail Interiors, recently completed a renovation of her own kitchen that includes plenty of color, finishes and what she calls “no one’s taste but her own.”
Open shelving holds items the designer and her husband use every day. She chose three colors for the cabinets – all by Benjamin Moore: River Blue for the island, Sea Haze for the upper and tall cabinets and dark-stained walnut for the perimeter base cabinets.
An art light over the window highlights the window treatment, an item Clendenon made and says dictated all the other color choices in the kitchen. She saw the overmount Blanco sink at Cologne Germany before it debuted in the states and fell in love.
The designer and her installer took two hours to lay the backsplash tile out on the floor to make sure it was mixed correctly. Northern Contours panels in a glossy champagne finish that is easy to clean were chosen for the refrigerator. She tested it in her own home first and plans to use it in a future project.
The “un-dining” room gets a lot of use while the couple is entertaining. The walls in that area are covered in a sari silk and wood wallpaper.
Clendenon loves to incorporate vintage pieces into all of her kitchen projects, hence the old pine pharmacy cabinet. The bar stools are vintage Salterini covered in a Crypton eggplant velvet.
