An inviting kitchen and dining space can make a big difference in family gatherings and daily life. JP and Kelly Ward of Md.-based Anthony Wilder Design/Build worked together to create a space of their own that fit their modern and creative style.
The homeowners wanted a modern kitchen/dining area that is functional, has plenty of storage and incorporates a work area. Being designers, they also wanted the room to be an elegant reflection of their style: modern, sleek and clean.
Now one large space, the kitchen and dining area are tailored to the family’s specific needs and desires. A drop ceiling creates emphasis over the island and helps delineate the different areas.
“Creating a space that is casual and formal, functional and beautiful, artistic and accessible is challenging,” said JP Ward. “To accomplish this, we used functional materials like Silestone countertops and solutions such as an appliance garage and a hidden desk closet.”
The new space allows the clients to smoothly transition from a high-functioning daytime office, to a homework and family zone in the afternoons, to a formal entertaining area at night.
A hidden office was designed by creating a concealed desk area with sliding doors. When the doors open, an expansive desk with storage and lighting is exposed.
