Designer Alicia Saso of Glen Ellyn, Ill.-based Drury Design designed this space for a family of five, who were looking to turn their cramped spaces into a functional, large kitchen and a spa-like master bathroom.
To accommodate their needs, Saso moved the main kitchen space into what was the existing family room and installed a large window to provide more natural light.
“A long, two-tiered island with seating for five and plenty of countertop space makes sitting down for meals, doing homework or prepping a meal functional and inviting,” said Saso.
A separate coffee and drinks area – complete with a microwave – provides for the kids and any hosting opportunities the clients have.
After taking down several walls and expanding into a closet in the master bedroom, the master bathroom now has room for an oversized shower, two separate vanities and a freestanding tub.
A separate makeup area – delineated with its lower countertop, brass-framed mirror and cushioned ottoman – is a functional and comfortable space for the wife.
Marble tiled floors were used throughout, and a tiled “rug” of smaller marble pieces creates a focal point in front of the tub.
