A family kitchen transformed into a French, traditional style with simple updates and a change in approach. “It was time to modernize the kitchen to their tastes,” said designer Ed Cholfin, president of AK Complete Home Renovations.
White melamine cabinets and outdated appliances adorned the previous space.
Maple cabinetry with a nutmeg brown stain creates a warm atmosphere. “Maple takes a stain very consistently,” said Cholfin. “With the wash that the stain has, there is a subtle two-tone effect on the maple.”
The two-seater island now sports a high-top table as well as a low bar for the children. “The island has a mushroom effect to it,” Cholfin commented.
The cabinetry contrasts with the neutral St. Cecilia granite countertops around the kitchen perimeter and on the island.
Cabinets replaced the pantry’s former wire shelves, and a lower section was added for the children.
LED lights illuminate the berry red wall color and the tumble-stone backsplash. “It’s a higher upfront cost, but the bulbs last longer,” said Cholfin. “In the long run you’re going to save money.”
