An empty nester couple wanted something that would function for modern-day living but would still include historical elements from a 1902-daed home. Designer Jana Valdez at Haven Design and Construction stepped in to remodel this 322-sq.-ft. Kitchen remodel.
Valdez loved the transom window over the door leading to the back porch, so she added a matching transom to the other door now leading into the walk-in pantry. She custom designed the transom mullions for both doors to provide additional historic detailing.
The blue-and-white hand-painted marble tile in the pantry was the impetus for the color selections in the entire kitchen. A period-appropriate wall faucet complements the soapstone backsplash.
For a transitional update, the designer chose shiny lacquer for the cabinets and range hood.
Valdez said the hand-painted marble tile floor was the inspiration for the guest bath design. She chose a pale blue color for the walls and a pale blue penny round tile for the shower floor.
A beveled mirror between the windows makes the room seem larger, and polished nickel fixtures add sparkle and visual interest.
