Designer Kerri Brown of Alpine, Utah-based Design by KB was faced with a unique challenge: creating a sophisticated but fun kitchen for a family with five young children.

The kitchen was designed with two large teal islands, each with their own individual purpose: one is a standard working island and the other is for baking.

“As I showed this residence for two weeks in our local parade of homes, I was able to set up the entire house and its systems right from the kitchen,” said Brown, explaining the use of the ELAN Entertainment and Control System she installed. “I communicated with the homeowners off-location on the video feed, turned on the pool’s irrigation, played music, altered lights, opened the blinds, locked doors – the list goes on.”

Another home with a wood barrel ceiling seen by the client inspired the contrasting dark ceiling in this kitchen.

Appliances like the refrigerator, dishwasher and microwave are integrated into the cabinetry for a streamlined look.

“The hood was custom painted by Oikos from Italy, and we used a silver-and-white tile called ‘Million Dollar Baby’ that had plenty of sparkle,” said the designer.
