Designer Paul McAlary of Philadelphia-based Main Line Kitchens was charged with just creating a mudroom area, installing new appliances and building a patio entrance. With creative layout planning, he was able to also build a sunroom, open up the kitchen and enhance the stone patio.
By removing a load-bearing wall between the kitchen and dining room and rearranging the appliances, the designer was able to create better flow and an open layout.
The new island features a small prep sink, storage and seating for comfortable and functional design.
A small wine refrigerator and a microwave oven are hidden behind the island.
According to the designer, soapstone is a great choice for a countertop that cannot stain or burn and goes well with such a classic kitchen.
“My favorite parts of this design include our customers’ open minds, which provide for such optimal design and the coffered ceiling solution to the beam that would, otherwise, have been so unsightly,” said McAlary.
“This finished kitchen is an exciting example of the value of give and take between us and the customer that creates the best kitchen with the features the customer wants after considering all their options,” said the designer.
