A Chicago couple wanted to build their forever home in the northern suburbs of the city, near where they both grew up. They approached locally based Northworks Architects and Studio Gild design firm to create a modern and dramatic home fit for their family to grow in.
The clients knew that for their family, the kitchen is the heart of the home, so they wanted an 18-ft. island and seating for six to accommodate their family’s lifestyle.
“The kitchen has ample vertical real estate we wanted to take advantage of, so we installed a custom brass hood that’s as tall as a person,” said Studio Gild principal Jennie Bishop, who worked alongside fellow principals Kristen Ekelend and Melissa Benham on the project. “It creates a dramatic moment your eyes are automatically drawn to.”
The powder room is long, slender and tall, so the design firm decided to take advantage of its dimensions with elements like an oversized mirror and black-and-white wallpaper.
“We have a lot of favorites in this room,” said Bishop. “My favorite part is the lighting, for Kristen it’s the wallpaper, and the marble sink is the pièce de résistance for Melissa.”
The master bathroom is located within the second-floor master suite and caters to the clients’ request for a retreat and a spa-like relaxing experience.
With more than a dozen slabs of graphite limestone and a white freestanding tub, this master bathroom makes a bold statement.
