Designer Wendy Albee, CAPS, of Albee Interior Design was charged with redesigning a home suited for everyone – including the homeowners, a large family of two daughters, their husbands and 10 grandchildren – ages three to 19.
With the previous pantry-turned-utility closet, the clients needed more storage space in the kitchen. The designer was able to add 9 linear feet of tall pantry cabinets by walling off the door to the former pantry, freeing up space.
As one of the client’s favorite colors is green, the designer chose the hue for the base cabinets, which complement the white taller cabinets on the other side of the kitchen.
All drawers and cabinets feature pullouts for easy access to all family members.
A massive island in the new kitchen makes up for the lack of a formal dining room and accommodates large family gatherings.
Several of the elements from the original kitchen were reused in the renovation, including the green hutch and copper faucet, which were installed in the new laundry room.
