Decorating Den Interiors Announces Winners of Annual Dream Room Design Contest
First Place Dining Room: Dee Frazier, Frisco, Texas
This transitional violet and gray dining room is sophisticated, bright and airy. The room features a geometric, violet wallpaper paired with neutral, transitional furnishings. A round heather gray dining table and neutral, upholstered armchairs provide an intimate setting. An unexpected modern chandelier is the finishing touch to this space.
Second Place Dining Room: Nancy Lucas, Sea Girt, N.J.
Dark, worn out French Country styling gets a new life in this project. A glass dining table is united with white leather side chairs, a rectangular snow-white fabric pendant and the silken pearl sideboard bedecked with stately cerulean lamps.
Third Place Dining Room: Lynne Lawnson & Laura Outland
This mid-century modern dining room is given a twist with a bold and colorful wallpaper and a round concrete top dining table. Suspended above the table is a sophisticated smoked-glass globe chandelier. Deep teal velvet dining chairs add color, and a server provides storage and space for entertaining.
First Place Kitchen: Kristen Fencl, Incline Village, Nev.
This mid-century modern kitchen now has the open concept of a great room. Warm-toned linear walnut cabinets were chosen to give a striking visual appeal, while the white-leathered quartz countertops offer contrast with the brown monochromatic color scheme.
Second Place Kitchen: Dee Frazier, Frisco, Texas
This transitional and airy kitchen features white and gray cabinets, modern cabinet hardware, gray granite and a white and marble basketweave backsplash. Unique corded chairs are paired with a wood and iron round table.
Third Place Kitchen: Cassy Young, Athens, Ga.
A new modern farmhouse style updates this kitchen, featuring an open floor plan for everyday living or entertaining. A rustic wood ceiling complements painted shaker-style cabinetry and wood-look tile floors. Quartz countertops paired with subway and arabesque tiles provide easy maintenance.
First Place Bathroom: Diana Apgar, Cincinnati
An aqua sparkly tile served as the inspiration in this primary bathroom. A white freestanding tub enhances the space, and large arched mirrors and side lights give the room a modern appeal. The elaborate window treatments pull the space together.
Second Place Bathroom: Barbara Elliot & Jennifer Ward Woods, Atlanta
These clients desired a soft and calming color palate. The back walls were opened up, and the shower was expanded. A large vanity with gold mirrors and marble tiles in white and gray frame the bathroom. Gold contemporary lighting and wall sconces finished the spa-like glamorous bathroom.
Third Place Bathroom: Mary Jo Long, Downingtown, Pa.
This client wanted a classic, elegant, serene and spa-like master bathroom. A neutral color palette of soft green, grays and white transforms the space. Custom cabinetry in a timeless design provides storage and organization. A freestanding soaking tub and crystal chandelier for ambient light feel luxurious.
First Place Home Office: Barbara Hayman, Chester County, Pa.
Designed for two, this home office is a blend of contemporary style, love of travel and world affairs, as well as the need for a softer feminine touch and a more transitional design style with pops of color. Blues, grays and pops of red satisfy the clients’ need for some color throughout the space. The large custom world map mural provides a focal point in this workspace. The custom desk wrapped in a masculine gray faux leather is a conversation starter and adds texture.

Industrial meets cozy; this home office features a wood and iron A-frame desk, gray leather chairs, plush kidney pillows and a light gray abstract ottoman. The gray motorized Roman shades and neutral key-patterned area rug add depth and visual interest against the wood floor and paneled walls.
Third Place Home Office: Lois Pade, Kenosha, Wis.
This transitional home office was created by designing a wall of gray built-in cabinets with creamy white quartz countertops. The neutral area rug defines a space for the charcoal fabric lounge chairs. Silhouette window shadings soften the light from the windows. Blue and gray accessories complete the room.

This poolscape feels fit for a luxury hotel. Fire bowls rest atop iridescent tile platforms that create a throne for the large swivel chairs. Waterspouts provide the calming sound of waterfalls.
Second Place Outdoor: Barbara Elliott & Jennifer Ward Woods, Atlanta
Highly sophisticated wing chairs were used throughout this space. Softer chair silhouettes and vibrant orange cushions infuse the area with warmth and boldness. Modern stone top tables, a highly decorative fire pit and a touch of accessories complete the space.
