Designing for Good
Kitchen
“Upon my initial visit to this historic home, it was clear to me that I would need to make the kitchen lighter, brighter and happier, as the existing kitchen was very dark, non-functional and dated. Through the use of texture, mixed metals and color, I gave this kitchen a sense of nostalgia as well as a look into the future.”

Kitchen
“The original space was loaded with entry doors and openings creating a lack of connectivity and practical function. When the space was finalized, I narrowed it down to four exposed openings and then a secret door to a walk-in pantry and a hidden mirrored door to the old staff quarters.”

Kitchen
“My goal was to unify this space through a mix of textures, metals and color. All of these components stand alone in their beauty, yet when brought together and complemented by the paint colors and beautiful accessories and fixtures, create a bright and exuberant space.”

Kitchen
“This project has a very different life than [what is] typical, as there is not a homeowner, architect or interior designer directing the entire project. My fondest memory of the 2014 Kips Bay Decorator show house was the camaraderie, teamwork and support provided by the Kips Bay Committee and the other participating designers in creating an astoundingly beautiful home in a ridiculously short timeline. It took coordination, stamina and patience to complete this kitchen from gut to completion in three weeks.”

Lady’s Sanctuary
“We wanted to create a glamorous room for the lady of the house. Our space, which we call ‘Andrea’s Retreat,’ was truly a blank canvas – the direction and scope were up to us. We thought about this historic neighborhood and property and how the lady of the house may have lived, creating a retreat full of glamor and sophistication reminiscent of an era gone by.”

“One challenge of our space was the lack of architectural details. One solution was to use mirrored paneling to add dimension and elegance.”

Lady’s Sanctuary
“In addition to the mirrored paneling, we used a black grasscloth wallcovering, crystal lighting, acrylic and mirrored furnishings and luxurious fabrics to complete the space. The new Kohler Numi Toilet in black and a bathroom sink in a Shagreen finish from Kohler were stand-out additions.”

Lady’s Sanctuary
“The most exciting part for us is the camaraderie of the fellow designers at the show house. Each designer has their own unique perspective and vision for their space. It’s been great to see the show house come together and see what each of our fellow design community partners create.”

Powder Room
“We had a vision to create a sumptuous Floridian fantasy that strikes a balance between luxury and folly: a ‘Palm Beach Fever Dream.’”

Powder Room
“The room was originally configured in a way that maximized neither its function nor its visual impact. We oriented the room to provide both dramatic visuals and a logical layout.”

“We focused primarily on classic materials like gilded silk wallpaper and marble. Onyx and bronze were applied using a fresh approach and a touch of flair. More specifically, we used a custom de Gournay wallcovering that features silver silk paper, hand-painted in lush shades of pearlescent pink. To complete the space, we installed Mathieu Lehanneur’s “S.M.O.K.E.” sculptural light from Carpenters Workshop Gallery, which masterfully manipulates pink onyx and blown glass.”

“We loved the de Gournay wallpaper, the Kohler Composed Faucet and Veil Wall-Hung Toilet, as well as the luxurious Ann Sacks marble. Overall, though, we were thrilled to be able to design a beautiful room in the service of a great cause.”
