Designer Lauren Clement of Charlotte, N.C.-based Lauren Nicole Designs was charged with updating the kitchen and master bathroom for a busy family looking for better areas for relaxing and gathering. For both spaces, she did not have to change the footprint very much to reach her goal, as shown by this original walk-in shower that was updated with new tile and fixtures for a totally new look.
Before the redesign, this master bath felt heavy and dated with a beige palette and large vanities.
The vanities were replaced with walnut cabinetry without uppers, which were then paired with framed mirrors and quartzite countertops.
The shower was further enlivened with a mosaic tile accent that encircled the walk-in space.
The original kitchen had similar palette issues as the bath, as well as a bulky island and an unnecessary side wall.
The layout was updated with two islands – one for prep and one for seating and gathering – as well as the elimination of the side wall, which opened up the kitchen to the living area.
The cabinets were taken all the way to the ceiling and have lit glass uppers in the center above the hood. While not functional for everyday storage, these cabinets draw the eye up and make the kitchen feel even larger and brighter.
