Hidden among the trees, this Los Angeles area home highlights its surroundings with simple materials and natural lighting.
Designed by Christopher Mercier of Inglewood, Calif.-based (fer) studio, the home was aligned with the north-south axis to take advantage of the natural shading. An east and west wing separate the private areas of the house, with the living areas in the center.

Mercier’s team was asked by the client to create a kitchen that was only partially visible from this dining area and the open quarters.

The simple kitchen might seem enclosed, but its use of the same natural and simple materials as the rest of the home keeps it in tune with the surrounding rooms.
