“We were drawn to BlueStar because the cooking ranges had the option to customize the color and were very positively reviewed by professional chefs,” said architect Vivian M. Su, of grand prize winner Rasmussen/Su Architects. “We were originally looking at custom European style ranges, but given how much these clients cook, we prioritized having the largest oven capacity that could accommodate full sheet pans.”
A long-term collaboration with this client in several homes had given the designers a clear understanding of their likes and dislikes. In this project, the client didn’t ask for anything specific in the kitchen other than that it “be happy” and that bold color be used on the cabinetry. To that end, the BlueStar range was the first item specified by Angela Free Design, and the kitchen was built around it.
The client wanted a grand gathering space for the kitchen for family functions and entertaining. Steven Cooper, principal designer of Cooper Pacific Kitchens, found inspiration for his work in the interior’s hand-painted Portuguese tiles in dusty blue tones. “They were central to the home’s look, so we began there,” he said. “Then we considered the appliances because they define the space. We chose the 60-in. BlueStar range because it comes out of the commercial world and in that very specific color.”
In this symmetrical space by HGC Design Build, the BlueStar 60-in. rangetop is the anchor element of designer Hilary Gilkey’s floor plan. The appliance’s customized black and copper trim matched the hardware and faucet and picked up on the warm tones of the wood in the floating shelves, cabinet interiors and coffered ceiling.
When creating her own kitchen, architect Carolyn Michaelson wanted to respect the design heritage of her 1910 home, while selectively updating it for a modern lifestyle. Looking for a French top range with a large oven capacity, she found the BlueStar appliance fit those functional requirements and complemented the period details of the house.
Asked by her clients to bring a British flair to their kitchen in a home listed on the registry of historic buildings, designer Karen Swanson of New England Design Works sourced UK hardware and lighting for the project but selected the American-made BlueStar RNB range for its pro-grade features and high-performance burners, as well as its custom color options.
