BlueStar Announces 2022 Kitchen Design Contest Winners

August 15, 2022

BlueStar, the manufacturer of professional-performance kitchen appliances for the home, is excited to announce the 2022 Kitchen Design Contest winners. Six kitchens have been chosen for their exceptional design using BlueStar appliances, showcasing the brand’s limitless customization options and restaurant-quality performance. This year’s grand prize winner is Jenni Vetter, Interior and Project Manager of Vetter Architects in Wisconsin.

The husband and wife duo behind Vetter Architects set out to design their dream kitchen — an open concept cooking and entertaining space designed to feel like a living room. The grand-prize design featured a 60” Matte Black Platinum Series Range in the heart of the kitchen, with brass knobs and trim that mirror the custom brass cabinet hardware. The color palette for the kitchen is rooted around the rich deep green Health Tiles that cover the walls. Paired with the warm tones of mahogany cabinetry and window trim, the kitchen also features an impressive 18’ center island, complete with Vola faucets and leathered Mount Blanc quartzite that houses a 60” workstation sink.

“There’s a certain luxury of giving up an entire wall in a kitchen in favor of floor-to-ceiling windows to let the outdoors come in, and I absolutely adore the designer’s choice here,” said BlueStar Judge Karen Swanson of New England Design Works. “The materials selections lend wonderful support to this nature-based project, from the color and earthy feel of the tile to the wood tone on the island and cabinetry. The cabinetry all in the same opening widths with the same drawer heights and hardware being handled in a minimal way further contributes to the peaceful, cohesive vibe — I love the choices made here.”

Additionally, BlueStar announced five regional winners:

Jessica Davis – Atelier Davis, Atlanta, Georgia

Allie Mann – Case Design, Falls Church, Virginia

Noz Nozawa – Noz Design, San Francisco, California

By Design Interiors – Tomball, Texas

Nancy Barnett – Nancy Lane Interiors, Houston, Texas

Judge Charles de Lisle commented to KBB on the project by Atelier Davis, which was set in a classic mid-century modern Eichler home. “There is a lot of color and texture echoing the great vintage feeling, but it still has a design language that is contemporary and modern. It feels like one of those great big rooms that has a magnetic pull and will always be a welcome place for entertaining in a classic open plan.”

“We are honored to foster creative kitchen design and share how BlueStar can be personalized and designed for any kitchen from coast to coast. Our design contest is an excellent showcase of the versatile points of view designers, architects, and creators hold,” said Eliza Sheffield, President of BlueStar.

About the Case Design entry, Swanson told KBB, “There were many projects included in this year’s contest with angled ceilings and I didn’t think some of them handled the intersection of cabinetry with ceiling very well. But in this case, I think the designer really nailed it. Stopping the uppers to line up with the fridge cabinetry but angling the hood allows this to feel interesting but quiet, with design choices that were clearly highly considered.”
