Decorating with Crystals

December 6, 2019

Google searches for “crystals” and “healing crystals” have slowly climbed over the past five years, hitting a peak in 2017 – around the time several news outlets, including the New York Times, dropped big stories digging into the trend. We are living through a period of almost unprecedented political, military, economic and environmental uncertainty at the moment, so it’s not surprising that people are drawn to anything that might provide comfort.

Crystals are beautiful, so placing one just about anywhere will boost your space’s ambiance and good vibes. If you’re using crystals in a home for healing purposes, it’s good to place them around intentionally, so that their energy can support you in various environments.

For the Bathroom: Clear Quartz
The bathroom is a place of cleansing, and as the primary cleansing stone, clear quartz is a perfect asset to this space. By connecting with clear quartz, you can purify the spirit as the body is cleansed. Have it by the shower or bath to enhance the energy of cleansing.

Clear quartz is an amplifier and is meant to magnify the energy of the spirit. You do need to think of placement, since that would make the distinction of whether you’re amplifying the bathtub or toilet.

For the Entryway/Mudroom: Black Tourmaline
Black tourmaline is a powerful protection stone for the home. It helps protect from negative influences and energy in the environment. Placing black tourmaline on an entry table can help “wash off” negative energy from the outside that you don’t want to bring in.

For the Kitchen: Carnelian
The kitchen often becomes the main gathering space in a home, and there are a ton of crystals that would be right for this space. Carnelian is an uplifting, energizing crystal, so it’s a great one for the kitchen because it delivers confidence, boosts creativity, stimulates motivation and increases stamina.

Other options include the blue lapis lazuli crystal to promote bonding; bloodstone for abundance, health, vitality and good digestion; citrine for activating the appetite; or add a dash of nurturing energy with rose quartz.

For the Living Room: Selenite
Also known as satin spar, in the home, selenite is meant to keep the area clear of blocked, harmful or negative energy. Selenite raises the vibration of a space and brings in more light. Selenite is great to decorate with because it can be found in large, tubular pieces.

Even if you are a non-believer or think it’s just a placebo effect, decorating with crystals you are drawn to can lead to creating a space in which you are more comfortable and productive.
