With more than 2,000 exhibitors and 12 million square feet of show space, there is always a lot to explore at High Point Market. If you didn’t make it to this bi-annual event this year, here are some trend forecasts, tips and favorite finds from four design firms that attended.

Marian Louise Designs:

  • Curved Lines: “One thing I noticed was the use of curved lines in furniture profiles. Gone are the straight, crisp lines. So many brands are replacing them with smooth, elegant, cool curves that harken back to the 1970s.”high point
  • Cozy Fabrics: “Luxe, snuggly fabrics like boucle, wool, mohair and velvet were everywhere. I think being in lockdown, people were living on their sofas more than ever and wanted extra-cozy fabrics to love on them.”cozy fabric

R.Johnston Interiors:

  • Colors: “There was definitely a shift toward warmer, saturated colors and darker tones, which was a big change from the white-on-white interiors we usually see on Instagram. This was likely the result of a more financially spendy design economy – when times are tough, we see lots of neutrals and white, but when the economy is stronger, clients tend to be more willing to push color and pattern.”color
  • Accessories & Lighting: “We noticed more artistry and curation in lighting and accessories this year. Pieces looked much less generic and manufactured and much more unique and interesting.”lighting

Dekay & Tate:

  • Outdoor Fabrics: “We were so impressed with the wonderful showcase of indoor/outdoor quick-ship fabrics. Everything was so high end, and we loved the chenille for outdoor use.”high point market
  • Be Outspoken: “There were pieces that were not only unique but important with the message they put out into the world. Whether you love it or hate it, their work is something you won’t forget. Everything is just funky and fun!”high point market

Lance Thomas, Thomas Guy Interiors:

  • Sun-Soaked Summer Colors: “Whether it be contemporary in style, traditional or somewhere in between, this dried-flower palette was soothing and humble – perfect for those wanting to introduce a bit of color in their homes but can’t quite commit to its fully saturated counterparts. Desert clays, dried lavenders and blistered ochres were just a few of those colors we soaked in at market.”
  • A Wonderful World of Wallcoverings: “I loved seeing unconventional and unexpected treatments adorning the walls of showrooms at High Point Market. From fabric to photography, wood-scene murals to real wood paneling, it was exciting to see the storytelling quality of wallcoverings. After spending a pandemic year staring at white walls, wallcoverings are the perfect solution for those wanting a bit more oomph.”
