Of the 17 million professional photos of home interiors and exteriors on Houzz, one kitchen – designed by Justin and Tyler Sachs of Stonington Cabinetry & Designs – stood out from the rest. As the most popular photo uploaded to Houzz in 2018, this image boasted more than 64,000 saves. KBB spoke with the Madison, N.J.-based designer brothers to find out the secret behind their success.

Goals
Justin: “We wanted to create a space that was innovative, in a way that wouldn’t be interpreted as trendy. Our client was also insistent that she did not want the quintessential white kitchen; she had that before, and it was time for something different.”

Materials
Tyler: “We chose a beautiful warm custom gray for all the perimeter cabinetry and natural walnut for the island, hood mantle and floating shelves. We also added antique mirrors on the face of the uppers and backsplash in the bar/pantry area. Polished-nickel hardware and fixtures, stainless-steel appliances, white quartz counters and a white, hand-poured ceramic backsplash with a light gray-colored grout finish off the space.”

Why It’s Trending
Justin: “I think the thing that stands out most to Houzz users is the overall balance and quality, and it also has that layer of warmth to it with the natural wood elements. I think some may be surprised by how much they like it, given it isn’t exactly a white kitchen.”

The Best Part
Tyler:
“Going shopping with the clients for the countertops was a favorite. She is a truly special person and so very deserving of this beautiful kitchen.”
