Dura Supreme Cabinetry recently celebrated its 29^th-annual Kids Switch Day. What started out as a Cub Scout project in the early 1990s is now a highly anticipated company event every November. Each year, 5th graders who are children or grandchildren of a Dura Supreme employee have the opportunity to participate in the event. This year the company also included the 6th graders that had their 2020 Kids Switch Day postponed last year due to COVID-19 restrictions. 

The day was filled with fun educational games, a factory tour of the Dura Supreme factory where they learn first-hand about what their parents and grandparents do each day, discuss what it means to be a good employee, movie time and more. The day wrapped up with a hands-on activity where each child gets to build their own cabinet to take home as a keepsake. 

“This is an awesome experience for the children,” said Maria Dupont, professional expediter for Dura Supreme Cabinetry. “My kids are in their 30s, and they still have the sweet little cabinet they built a ‘few’ years ago.” 

Dura Supreme Cabinetry is Wright County’s largest privately-owned employer and has been producing Minnesota-Made cabinetry products for almost 70 years.

“This was my first Switch Day, and I happened to have a 5^th grader to bring to the event, so I also have the parent perspective,” said Brett Kohler, human resources director for Dura Supreme Cabinetry. “The kids appeared to have thoroughly enjoyed the day while learning about Dura Supreme and getting to see where their parents and grandparents worked. It was evident many of them had a sense of pride their parent or grandparent worked here. This is a great event supporting community outreach and it reinforces the overall culture at Dura Supreme.
