Sustainable Surfacing Brands Join Forces to Launch Modern Surfaces
February 1, 2017
Modern Surfaces, a partnership of manufacturers and trade partners who have aligned to create a new resource for designers looking for better alternatives to granite and quartz surfaces, recently debuted at KBIS 2017 in Orlando. Made up of sustainable surfacing brands Durat, IceStone and PaperStone, along with distributors CaraGreen and Cerami Inc., Modern Surfaces is driven to create beauty and utility out of waste, impacting and improving lives far beyond concepts and applications.
“As the design community turns its focus to healthy buildings and occupant well-being, the Modern Surfaces initiative is positioned to give them a place to explore these options and find beautiful, responsible materials, not just to create, but to create better,” says Jessica McNaughton, President of CaraGreen, a distributor for the Modern Surfaces brands, which helped spearhead this effort.
Modern Surfaces is a truly unique partnership, bringing together beautiful, sustainable materials from surfacing manufacturers and distributors that share the same beliefs: design transcends designer, function can be emotional, beauty should be essential, and creation is an endless possibility.
Durat surfaces are forged from 100 percent recycled acrylic filler. This unique, ecological solid surface material can be used to create seamless surfaces for any custom project including countertops, desks, tables, integrated sinks, bathtubs, shower trays and stools. Easy maintenance and hard-wearing properties make it an ideal material for various kinds of interiors including bathrooms and public spaces.
IceStone surfaces are made from 100 percent recycled glass and cement, which create a highly durable surface. IceStone surfaces are cut, installed, and maintained just like mined stone. These surfaces are available in a variety of shades that range from soft, earth-toned neutrals to rich, vibrant colors and are ideal for kitchen countertops, back splashes, bathrooms, tabletops, bar tops, fireplace surrounds, conference tables, and reception areas.
PaperStone are beautiful and heavy-duty solid surfaces known for their performance, warm touch, contemporary appearance and environmental sustainability. The material is made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled paper and a proprietary, petroleum-free resin. PaperStone is durable and recommended for residential kitchen and bath and commercial uses. These surfaces aren’t just an attractive new material that is produced in a socially responsible manner, it is also strong. It has steel-like strength in span, stone-like beauty, and can be worked like fine hardwoods.
