I recently attended the Architectural Digest Home Design Show in the Big Apple and wanted to share some of the interesting things I was lucky enough to see in one day. Big, bold colors and new refrigerator technology stole the show for me, and a mix of traditional and contemporary styles still abound when it comes to cabinetry and countertops. 

The bright orange Bertazzoni Professional Series Range in Arancio was one of the first things to catch my eye, but I was not lucky enough to win the one they were giving away at the show. The range was launched at the 2013 AD Show and was inspired by the foods of the region in which the company manufactures its products – Emilia-Romagna. 

Designer and K+BB Editorial Advisory Board member Toni Sabatino and I got a chance to catch up in NYC, and she was thrilled with Contemporary Pull, a new hardware line for modern rooms. The colorful collection was launched at the show and includes a variety of eye-catching designs.

Rutt unveiled its new Ruskin Series of handcrafted cabinetry designed by Scott A. Stultz. The series takes its cues from such elements as Gothic stonework but features clean and simple lines. The traditional or inset cabinets feature a framing bead that recesses into the cabinet face frame. A massive island in the booth also featured a stunning zinc countertop designed by Christopher Lee Plummer of La Bastille. 

Dacor and Miele both featured new refrigeration technology in their new models, with a single zone that can transition between fresh and frozen modes. Dacor also featured its Discovery 36-in. Gas TouchTop – the first gas cooktop in North America with a timer on each burner that puts out the flame upon completion. 

Miele also featured its whole bean coffee system, with such gadgets as a frothing system with an integrated milk tank, a safety lock, a multi-lingual LCD display in 21 languages, integrated LED lighting and a left-hinged door with a concealed handle.

Native Trails had on display its trough sink for the bathroom, which is available in two sizes. Part of the company’s NativeStone Collection, the sustainable sink is stain, scratch and crack resistant.

And finally, the Cirrus Ceiling-Recessed Hood from Best was sleek, attractive way to disguise a range hood in a kitchen.
