Recently the New Jersey Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) celebrated the winners of its annual Design Excellence Awards. The residential sector had 11 categories in which designs could be entered, from a single space to a historic preservation project. Eighteen interior designers won a total of 30 prizes.

The judges were a diverse group of award-winning ASID members from around the country. Judging was based on the following criteria with a points system: effectiveness of the design solution, functional use of space, scale and proportion, color and composition, innovative use of materials, creativity of the design solution, effective use of lighting, use of sustainable design principles and use of universal design principles. Artistic Marble & Granite Surfaces of Hawthorne, N.J., and Blackman, a supplier of plumbing, heating, waterworks, HVAC and pipe fabrication services, were the event sponsors.

Prizes were granted in Gold, Silver and Bronze categories, and projects must have had the minimum score in a category to qualify. More than one winner in a category was possible if there was a numerical tie.
