Design Beyond Fellowship Launched

July 23, 2018

Delta Faucet and New York Magazine recently joined forces to launch the Design Beyond Fellowship, a unique opportunity for emerging interior designers. Four fellows were chosen from a pool of qualified applicants to partake in a summer-long immersive learning experience under the mentorship of New York Magazine design editor Wendy Goodman and notable designers Delia Brennan, Billy Cotton, Young Huh and Ghislaine Viñas. The fellows will travel to inspiring locations, receive a $5,000 stipend and be featured in New York Magazine.

The winning fellows will be challenged to imagine future-facing spaces throughout a series of assignments to add to their portfolios. During their collective journey, they will meet and learn from well-connected professionals, explore unique locations for inspiration and interpret various design themes featuring Delta products with individual perspectives. All of this will be captured within a four-part video series shared via both Delta Faucet’s and New York Magazine’s channels.

“To select the young professionals participating in our 2018 Delta Fellowship, I had the opportunity to review lots of portfolios of designers from around the country,” said Goodman in an interview with KBB. “It is a difficult but exciting task, as there is so much to consider beyond an individual’s talent, such as how they respond to a client’s needs.”

The program kicked off with a VIP dinner recognizing the fellowship recipients, where they met the summer mentors and were introduced to the Delta product design team.

“The collective talent of these young designers inspires us and reinforces exactly why we are committed to supporting today’s and tomorrow’s design talent,” said Catherine Roper, director of brand marketing at Delta Faucet. “We look forward to fostering growth and inspiring design for years to come. Design is an art form; we embrace and challenge the emerging class of designers to reimagine kitchens and baths of the future with their creativity to truly push our company and our industry forward.”

The Design Beyond Fellowship is comprised of the following designers:

Selin Kurun graduated this year from the Fashion Institute of Technology with a BFA in interior design. She has been working as an interior design intern at Workshop/APD in New York City.

Nicholas Ozemba is a graduate of the Rhode Island School of Design’s furniture department and currently works as design director at In Common With, a boutique custom lighting studio based in New York City.

Ajaee Shepard graduated from the New York School of Interior Design this year with a BFA in interior design and currently works for Modsy as a remote stylist.

Spencer Sight
recently graduated from Naropa University and currently resides in Kansas City, a city he believes is on the cultural “up and up,” and most of his work has overseen the full process of home renovation.

“The Delta Fellowship program offers such a wonderful opportunity for our fellows to work with fantastic pros who mentor them through the course, and then they have the added value of the exposure of their work,” said Goodman. “It should be a joyous and exciting learning curve!”
