Duravit USA Names Winners in Annual Designer Dream Bath Competition

October 29, 2018

Duravit USA has completed the sixth edition of its annual Designer Dream Bath Competition, where one winner and two honorable mentions were selected for both the Built and Unbuilt categories.

For the Built category, which honors a project completed featuring Duravit within the last five years, the winner is David Gonzalez-Blanco of Billy Blanco Designs, with honorable mentions given to firms White Arrow and Falken Reynolds. For the Unbuilt category, which tasks designers with reimagining their own bathrooms with the latest Duravit product introductions, the winner is Frevent Design, with honorable mentions given to OAD Interiors and AD-WO.

“This year’s winning designs encompass what the Duravit brand is about: clever design combined with beautiful aesthetics,” said Tim Schroeder, Duravit USA president. “It’s always inspiring to see how our winners, honorable mentions and all entries use Duravit to solve their design problems and enhance their homes and projects.”

Gonzalez-Blanco, of Miami-based firm Billy Blanco Designs, used the Duravit Cape Cod Collection as inspiration for his winning project. Designed by Philippe Starck, the collection accentuates the Ontario home’s bay-front master suite. The picnic table-inspired vanities are complemented by the soft curves of the freestanding bathtub and round washbasins, and Gonzalez-Blanco further played into the project’s setting with elegant aqua tile.

As the Built category winner, Gonzalez-Blanco will receive $5,000 in Duravit credit. Brooklyn, N.Y.-based White Arrow and Vancouver-based Falken Reynolds received honorable mentions; in both projects, they featured a small space that used Duravit to add an airy and modern aesthetic.

The Unbuilt category invited designers to redesign their own bathroom featuring Duravit’s new Brioso and XSquare collections, with the winner receiving a $10,000 in Duravit credit to make their dream bath a reality. The winning project by Toronto-based Frevent Design features the organic shapes of Duravit ceramics juxtaposed by the crisp geometry and modern wood of the furnishings. Brooklyn, N.Y.-based OAD Interiors and New York City-based AD-WO, the honorable mentions, also used a creative combination of Duravit furniture and ceramic products to create their own bathroom spaces.

Submissions were reviewed, and winners were selected by a jury of leading designers, architects and media.
