Huntwood Announces Winners of 2019 Design Contest

1st Place: Yana Alentyeva, Bellevue, Wash.

December 20, 2019

Huntwood Cabinets recently announced the winners of its 2019 Design Contest. Open to all Huntwood kitchen designers and direct reps, entrants were required to submit a short project bio, project photos, floor plan and overall cost breakdown.

“My criteria for judging the contest was a well-rounded design, with a designer who used the full array of Huntwood options as allowed (by size and scope), and who gave the customer the best value for their money,” said Ted Hunt, director of Sales for Huntwood Cabinets and one of the team of judges. “It was a very hard decision due to the great job done by the talented designers who entered the contest. There were several different styles represented: framed, frameless and inset cabinetry – in various paint, stain and glaze options. The 2019 Design Contest submissions will be a hard act to follow.”

1st Place: Yana Alentyeva, Bellevue, Wash.
This European-style kitchen was part of a new build that included 18 rooms. The kitchen was designed in a frameless line using a high-gloss acrylic door in graphite. Brushed-aluminum framed doors add an elegant accent to the upper cabinets. Stainless appliances and a white waterfall countertop complement the sleek look of this urban kitchen.

2nd Place: Mark LeTendre, Edmonton AB
The client had a very modern mid-century look in mind for this home but also wanted to include contemporary styling. Bold cabinetry in vintage black combined with black walnut cabinets pair beautifully and make a powerful design statement. The clean lines of the frameless cabinetry serve to enhance the modern look. The custom brass hood adds a final accent.

3rd Place: Karen Horte, Calgary AB
There’s a place for everything in this functional and stylish kitchen. This design features frameless cabinetry, retractable doors, added rollouts, touch hinges, popup outlets and minimal hardware pulls. The combination of black walnut in an autumn stain and colonial white-painted cabinetry create a contrast for this mid-century modern kitchen.

Honorable Mention: Dan Toews, Edmonton AB
The owners of this home wanted their kitchen to be bright and warm with a beach cottage feel. Colonial white-painted cabinets paired with glass mullion doors create the mood for this look, while double-arched toe kicks, matching custom fridge panels and polished-nickel hardware add a custom touch. The pantry area on the right side of the kitchen features pantry pullouts, rollouts and a built-in coffee machine.
